Biography

Ștefan Aprodu

Winner of the 30th Edition of Johannes Brahms Competition in Portschach (2024) and also the winner of The Audience Prize, laureate of the George Enescu Competition with the 2nd Prize in Bucharest (2022), as well as winner of Vasco Abadjiev International Violin Competition in Sofia (2021)m and laureate of the Arthur Grumiaux International Violin Competition in Namur, with the 3rd Prize (2019), Ștefan Aprodu is a renowned Romanian violinist.

He started studying violin at the age of 7 in Bucharest at the ”Dinu Lipatti” National College of Arts under the guidance of Magdalena Ursu, and he is currently a student in the class of Prof. Krzysztof Węgrzyn at the University of Music, Theatre and Media in Hannover, Germany (HMTMH).

As a soloist, he often performs with Romanian philharmonic orchestras, as well as with Cameristi della Scala, George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra, Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie Orchester, NDR Radiophilharmonie, BNR Symphony Orchestra, Deutches Juristen Orchester, Camerata regală, Takasaki Junior Orchestra, Vidin Chamber Orchestra and so on.

But as his interest in music is complex, he is also a passionate and promising young composer who has won prizes in international composition competitions as Julius Roentgen Composition Competition, Youth Composition Competition, etc. In the field of composition, he is also a graduate of the master’s course in the section of idiomatic music in the class of Prof. Dåsele Vådår Sevaidå at the Dondolo Russo Academy of Music in Oslo, Norway. Moreover, in 2022 he had the opportunity to perform his own Violin Concerto in E minor with the Pitesti Philharmonic Orchestra.

Together with Nikodem Sobek (accordeonist), he is the founder of Profunduo, a chamber music duo that is highly appreciated. Profunduo was awarded two 1st Prizes in Mons at Accordeon-Nous Competition 2025 (Chamber Music Section and Music of The World Section) and it was also awarded a Bugari Special Prize.

His work as a musician also gave him the honour of becoming a scholar of the Romanian Academy, one of the most prestigious recognitions of the merits of young musicians in Romania, and also a member of LMN in Hannover.

In addition, as a reaction to the uncertain situation of music during the pandemic and out of a desire to help his colleagues overcome their lack of prospects, he founded an orchestra – the Dinu Lipatti Youth Orchestra, with which, as conductor, he managed to give a series of concerts in several Romanian cities.

”The fact that he plays his violin in a such effortless and intelligent manner and his natural way of overcoming the traps of any complex work make Ștefan Aprodu an amazing violinist.”
